STIs could worsen if left untreated

Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) that are left untreated could progress and have far graver implications for suffers, an expert has warned.

Jason Warriner, clinical director at the Terrence Higgins Trust, UK, warned that numerous STIs can become far worse if they are not dealt with.

He noted that two common sexual infections, gonorrhoea and herpes, can sometimes occur without any symptoms.

But he advised anyone who fears they may be suffering from an STI to have it checked immediately and urged people not to be embarrassed about their sexual health.

While things such as Chlamydia and gonorrhoea are bacteria, herpes is a virus and once someone is infected they have it for life.

Scientists at the Harvard School of Public Health, US, found that men who develop the common STI, trichomonas vaginalis, could be at greater risk of contracting advanced and lethal prostate cancer.ADNFCR-2528-ID-800056033-ADNFCR
