AVIVA TO REPRESENT IRELAND IN EUROPE’S MOST COMPETITIVE BUSINESS AWARDS COMPETITION

Dublin 29th April 2010: Europe’s most competitive business awards programme, the European Business Awards sponsored by HSBC (www.businessawardseurope.com) has announced today that Aviva’s health insurance business is to represent Ireland in the prestigious 2010 Awards programme. Having reached this stage in the Awards, Aviva now faces competition from across Europe and will now compete for a coveted Ruban d’Honneur in the next round of the competition to be announced later in the summer before the Final category Award winners will be unveiled in November.

Speaking about the announcement, Jim Dowdall, CEO of Aviva Group Ireland said:

“This is clearly a fantastic achievement for Aviva and we are delighted to be recognised as one of the best businesses in Europe. Our Aviva health insurance business continues to be the fastest growing health insurer in Europe, leading our market in terms of value and service. Aviva’s selection for these prestigious awards would not have been possible without the dedication, innovation and hard work of our team in Aviva who continuously drive our business forward and deliver excellent service for all of our customers.”

Now in its fourth successful year, the European Business Awards has identified some of Europe’s brightest businesses based on their ability to demonstrate the three core principles at the heart of the Awards programme – innovation, business excellence and best practice. The esteemed panel of judges were looking for organisations to represent Ireland who exhibited innovation, business excellence and sustainability.

The European Business Awards is dedicated to raising the visibility and progress of companies who excel in delivering innovation twinned with successful commercial results whilst acting responsibly and positively affecting the social environment they operate in. In 2009, the 99 Ruban d’Honneur recipients had a combined turnover greater than €570 billion and recorded an average annual profit growth of 56%.

Adrian Tripp, CEO of the European Business Awards says “Over the past 4 years we’ve received hundreds of entries from businesses who are passionate about their role in driving the economy of the nation they reside in. This year we’ve partnered with HSBC Commercial Banking, the world’s largest trade bank and we’re encouraging businesses across the EU to assert their point of difference at a time when global economic competition is proving tougher than ever before. For European businesses to thrive and stay at the forefront of economic growth it is vital that we invest in enterprise, innovation and excellence”

Alan Keir, HSBC Group General Manager and Global Co-Head Commercial Banking, comments, “As we start to turn the corner from what has been an unprecedented chapter for businesses, we believe it is essential that we both acknowledge and celebrate the ingenuity that has enabled many companies to survive and often thrive across Europe during this time.
